This is billed as an entrance feeder, but if filled with sugar syrup we strongly recommend not inserting it in the entrance, but rather putting it above the colony, on an inner cover with a hive body surrounding it and the outer cover on top of that. Feeding sugar syrup at the entrance can easily promote robbing and/or encourage ants to become a nuisance.
This item makes a fine waterer, whether at the entrance, above an inner cover, or out in the open.
